Very relaxed, cheese plate was nice. My wife remarked it looks and feels like a Austin Texas (near campus) cafe. With better coffee, plus wine

This is strictly a bar, not a place to eat. It's also a bit pricy for what you get. From the perspective of a bar it has a great ambiance and seems to be the local hangout for this part of town. That stated, if you're visiting Paris you can skip it and won't be missing much.

Quelle dommage que le serveur du bar soit si antipathique (voire imbuvable ce qui est un comble pour un barman...). Son vocabulaire n'inclut visiblement pas les mots merci, bonjour et aurevoir. Pour l'happy hour, l'horloge du bar ayant 15 minutes d'avance, n'essayer pas de lui en convaincre, vous devrez payer le prix plein pot et si vous lui faite remarquer que son horloge n'est pas à l'heure, il vous adressera l'un de ces regards glaçants dont il a le secret... Conseil pour le manager du bar : investir dans des formations pour les serveurs, nous ne vivons plus au 18ème siècle...

This corner wine bar buzzes almost every night of the week. Early on it's a meeting place for friends just getting out of work, later, the windows steam up and so does the atmosphere. Music and chatter is loud, a bit overwhelming at times, barely noticeable after a few more glasses of wine.
Speaking of, the wine flows abundantly at Les Caves Populaires given the prices. Rosy cheeks line the bar and fill the pleasantly mismatched tables and chairs.
It's not fancy, but it's fun and you'll be happy to see that your wallet isn't empty when you get home.
